Guide to Packing Your Bathroom When Moving House

Simplistic green bathroom

Bathrooms are one of the trickiest areas of the house to pack up. Full of powdery makeups, electronic appliances and half-full (or half-empty) liquids, packing up your bathroom requires extra planning and care.

Don’t begin life in your new home with spillages and mess — follow this guide to learn how to pack your bathroom safely and efficiently.

Clear out before the move

Moving home is the perfect opportunity to sort out your bathroom and dispose of any broken, empty or unwanted items.

  • Check shampoo and conditioner bottles. If some are almost empty, prioritise using them in the days before your move so that you have fewer items to bring.
  • Dispose of worn towels and broken mirrors. Moving into a new property is a good opportunity to replace broken items.
  • For items that are in usable condition but you don’t want to bring to your new home, consider donating them to a friend or a charity shop.

Set aside items you’ll need on the day

You don’t want to spend the morning of your moving day rummaging around boxes looking for hair straighteners or eyeliner.

  • Make sure you set aside the items you’ll need on the day of your move (toothbrush and toothpaste are essential).
  • We also recommend keeping a separate wash bag so that you don’t go through the hassle of opening up your boxes.

Use towels, flannels and robes to wrap fragile items

Towels, flannels and robes can be used to your advantage.

  • Fragile items, such as porcelain soap trays or glass perfumes should be wrapped in bubble wrap, but could also be wrapped in towels, robes or flannels for added protection.
  • Pack your wrapped fragile items last so that they don’t get crushed and the towels, flannels and robes can hang down and fill extra pockets of space.

Remove excess air from plastic bottles

Plastic bottles might leak when exposed to alternating air pressure.

  • Open the lids of your plastic bottle and gently squeeze to remove excess air.
  • Bottles with liquids in should be packed in sealable plastic bags.
  • Ensure all lids are tightly fastened to the bottles to prevent leaks.

Label your boxes

Labelling your boxes will not only guide your packing, but it will also make the unpacking process easier.

  • Categorise your boxes so that there isn’t an assortment of items in each box. We recommend some of the following categories:
    • Toiletries
    • Makeup
    • Medicines
    • Appliances
    • Cleaning products
